There is a particular kind of style we are always being encouraged to pursue.

Effortless.

The woman who appears to have thrown something on without thinking, yet somehow looks immaculate. The perfectly undone hair. The expensive-looking knit. The jeans that fall exactly right. The sunglasses that suggest she has somewhere better to be.

We call it effortless.

And then, inevitably, we spend an extraordinary amount of effort trying to achieve it.

Perhaps that is where we have gone slightly wrong.

Because real effortless style has very little to do with looking as though you haven’t tried.

It is about knowing what is worth trying for.
